STURGEON BAY, WI (June 1, 2017) – Marine Travelift has recently delivered a 100 BFMII mobile boat hoist to Port of Coos Bay in Oregon. The new 100 metric ton machine will double their previous lifting capacity in the shipyard, increasing the range of boats they can service and allowing them to access a larger market segment along the west coast.
The Port of Coos Bay has been serving the Southwest Oregon region since 1912 and continues to make key investments in equipment to sustain economic growth within the state. The Shipyard is home to three local marine based businesses, all of which underline a number of repair and construction services that will benefit from the added capacity the new boat hoist brings.
“From large steel construction to fiberglass construction, all of our customers have been extremely happy with the triple strapping fore and aft in order to distribute weight more efficiently – particularly with our wooden boats,” said John Buckley, Harbormaster at the Charleston Shipyard.
“We have experienced a significant increase in the level of service among our local fishing and recreational fleets. Our ability to accommodate a larger range of boats will open larger market segments and help these businesses continue to thrive,” Buckley added.
In addition to providing growth within the economy, the new 100 BFMII mobile boat hoist has increased safety and efficiency by providing John and his staff with a number of features designed to expand upon current yard capabilities. Features such as the wireless remote control, LED light package and sound suppression kit all contribute to providing quality of service their customers demand. The additional bolting flange will also allow the Port to widen the machine in the field to accommodate a future slip expansion project.
“The wireless remote control has benefited us in a variety of ways throughout our day-to-day operations. Our operators can now walk around and operate at the same time, giving them the ability to keep an eye on their surroundings and improving our operational safety and maneuverability,” said Buckley.
“The night time lights also allow us to continue operations into the night, which in turn, increases our potential business within the shipyard.”
Port of Coos Bay has expressed its satisfaction with the new machine and look forward to working alongside Marine Travelift and Kendrick Equipment to achieve their goals.
